I love old buttons, antique or not. I have some that my mother had that are still on cards. They sold for 10 cents.

I just found your blog and want to say how much I love your things! (My sister crochets bags out of plastic. I'm living in Thailand right now and miss her so much. Seeing your bags made me nostalgic!)

And the buttons you found are beautiful! I love flea markets!

Who can resist a flea market? These buttons are quite a find. Really brings back memories of my childhood as my aunt usually takes me with her when she goes shopping for buttons and supplies that she'll use for her dress shop.

Sorry to say that they are all vintage. Plastic is a modern material in the antique world. The only one you have that is old is the darker green one down at the bottom towards the left. It looks like a pressed celluloid button from the 30's. Celluloid is one of the earliest plastics, but it does not qualify as antique in the button world. Buttons before 1918 are antique. Antique buttons would typically be brass, cut steel, rubber, horn, wood, and shell...some ceramics and glass, but one would have to look at the shank to determine if they were antique or not.

Great vintage buttons, though!

I remember when I was young - my grandma always had a large jar of different kinds of buttons. She never through any away, if a piece of clothing needed to be discarded she would take of the buttons and put them in the jar. I used to LOVE dumping it on the table and sorting them to see what kinds of buttons she had.
You found some really lovely ones!
