Tree In the Blue Room
I love Christmas traditions. I can’t think of any tradition in our house that is set in stone except that we eat Chinese food on Christmas eve.
The Whitehouse has many traditions when it comes to the holidays. Each year, the first lady decorates the Whitehouse Christmas tree in a style of her choosing. The first family has their own tree which is displayed in the Blue Room, a tradition that began when President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy occupied the Whitehouse. (The Blue Room was accessible to the public before 9/11). Members of the National Christmas Tree Association have presented the official White House Christmas Tree for display in the Blue Room since 1966. This year, First Lady Michelle Obama chose ornaments that featured landmarks of the United States. The tree features over 800 ornaments that celebrate local monuments and institutions from 60 American communities. Many of the landmarks are not as well known as the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore but still hold an important place in American history. This year’s theme is “Reflect, Rejoice and Renew.”

That sounds like a lovely theme for the Whitehouse tree. What a cool idea.

That;s a pretty odd tradition – eating Chinese on Christmas Eve..:) I usually eat everything my Mom made: home cooking mainly. Landmarks was a pretty easy theme for the First Lady. But either way, I hope it snows on Christmas, just a little. It would be soo nice….
