Loose Change

Have you seen all the packaged 5″, 10″ and fat quarters! The language of the quilter. But exactly what can you do with these size pieces of fabric? With the book LOOSE CHANGE and some time, you can make GREAT quilts.
Beginning with an explanation of how many pieces in nickel (5″) or dime (10″) sizes you can get out of a fat quarter (18″ x 21″) and going on to explain about color and value, the authors show you just how wonderful these types of quilts can be. A dozen patterns later, your stash will be well depleted if you choose to make each of these projects.
A full color photo of the finish quilt or table runner and a paragraph about it begins the project instructions. The finished size of the quilt and the block is given, along with a skill level. The materials and cutting lists are clear and easy to understand. Graphics are included to help you understand the section on making the blocks. Adding appliqué, blockers and finishing the quilt is the final section of instructions. Any templates needed to create the quilts are also provided at full size.
There are “Piggy Bank Tips” included in colored boxes throughout the book. These are tips on various quilting ideas, suggestions on colorways or how to make different sized quilts to name a few.
As in most quilting books, there is a section on the basics for those who need a refresher or for those who are new to the quilting process. The final page gives a short bio of each author. If you want to learn about nickel, dime and fat quarters projects, this is a great book to have in your library.
Finally a book to use with all those great pre-cut fabric collections. Have fun using 5″ and 10″ squares and fat quarters or quarter-yard cuts in 12 creative projects.

• Try a table runner, crib or lap blanket, or even a bed cover
• Get up to speed on rotary cutting, traditional and foundation piecing, and easy optional appliqué and embroidery
• Great for fabric swaps or using up your stash

I have always, always wanted to make a quilt. I started one when I was pregnant the first time (she is 26 now). Then I started a queen size one about five years ago.

Maybe, I would finish if I started smaller? I like the idea of a table runner. I things as soon as I have a free moment, I am going to try it.
