Learning From Others

If you make quilts, you should join a quilt guild. You will be inspired to try new techniques and quilt patterns. I don’t think I will ever run out of ideas for new projects.

Last night’s meeting didn’t fail to inspire me. At show and tell, some of the members showed their version of the table topper I had taught them how to make. I didn’t really teach them, as most of the members are veteran quilt makers. I especially loved a topper made in fall colors. She plans to make her topper into a round table cloth. I cannot wait to see the finished topper.

We are often introduced to new ideas that aren’t necessarily quilts. One of our members bought a man’s suit jacket at a second hand store. She sent it to the dry cleaners to be cleaned and then used her skills to embellish it. The jacket is beautiful! She used fusible interfacing to put fabric leaves on the jacket and then used her sewing machine to stitch around them. She put a small doily into the pocket and a few buttons here and there to give it a cute touch. She took something old and made it new and interesting. It looked so comfortable.

For our wedding my mother-in-law made us a quilt. And to be honest I was never a big quilt fan, BUT after wrapping up in that huge warm quilt she made it has changed my perspective forever! Quilts are amazing!

I’ll have to tell her about this site. She’ll absolutely love it!

Yes, quilts are amazing. I love to wrap up in one. Knowing how much work is involved in making one makes them even more inviting. That would be awesome if your mother in-law comes to read my blog. Thanks!

Do you have any pictures of the quilt she made for you for your wedding gift?
